Website maintenance and hosting

I look after your website or online shop, even if someone else built it: speed, updates, backups, security and a move to a better server.

What you get

A website or online shop that loads quickly, with checked backups and someone responsible who knows what changes and why. I maintain websites and online shops that I built, and ones that other people built.

For a site on WordPress or WooCommerce:

  • Speed. I make the pages lighter, with fewer and smaller files, and measure before and after, at the same points. It matters most on a phone.
  • A move to a better server. If slow shared hosting is the problem, I move the site to a server of its own.
  • Backups. The database is backed up every night and each backup is checked. Older copies are kept too, not just last night’s (grandfather-father-son), and I test for real that a restore works.
  • Security. Attack traffic is blocked automatically and changes to the site’s files are monitored, so an unwanted change does not go unnoticed.
  • Updates and small changes. Every change goes live with a backup and a written rollback plan, so it can be undone.

For the websites I build on the template I maintain (website-template), hosting is simple: every page is a ready-made file and needs no server of its own. At most traffic levels, the monthly server cost is close to zero. The site stays live on your own domain, with a contact form that has spam protection.

Whatever the site runs on, my system checks it every 15 minutes and alerts me if it stops responding or its security certificate is about to expire. If you have a client portal account, a short report reaches you at the start of every month. See how we work.

Where you can see it working

  • pooq.gr (case study): a WooCommerce shop for phone accessories that ran on a slow shared server. I moved it to its own server and made every page lighter: the wait before a page starts loading dropped by 40 to 51%, and bulk product imports finish in seconds instead of minutes. The backups and security described above run there.
  • esupport-ioannina.gr (case study): a private citizen-services bureau in Ioannina. Before any change goes live, automated checks look for broken links and test the form, the phone layout and both languages. The form goes through my own forms service, with spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile).
  • Six live websites are built on the template I maintain, so an improvement is made once, in the template, and can carry over to all of them. A recent example is the Display preferences panel, where visitors can enlarge the text, raise the contrast or reduce on-screen motion: it was tried first on Komvos Ygeias, went into the template and from there onto this page.
  • Zosimades Nursing Home of Ioannina (case study): three systems in daily use that I built as a volunteer and keep maintaining. The new release of the clinical platform, which is ready to install, was rehearsed first on a copy of the home’s data.

How we work

I am based in Ioannina and work remotely with businesses across Greece. I handle your site myself, with no middleman.

  1. You write to me through the contact form, call me, send a message on Viber or WhatsApp, or book a call. I reply within 1-2 working days.
  2. We talk about what you need. If the site already exists, I look at it first and measure its speed at specific points.
  3. I send you a written proposal with what I will take on and the timeline.
  4. I work on what is already there rather than replace it, and you see the progress.
  5. I measure again at the same points, so you can see what changed. I stay available afterwards.

What you own

Software you own: the domain, the content and the code are yours, and you can take them with you whenever you want. Everything I write for your site is kept with a change history (version control), so you can see what changed and when. On pooq.gr, each customisation is a separate piece with its own off switch.

Frequently asked questions

Do you take on a website or online shop that someone else built?

Yes. pooq.gr was a WooCommerce shop already trading when I took it over. I start by measuring where the site stands, and I extend what is there rather than replace it.

My WooCommerce shop is slow. Do I need a new online shop?

Not necessarily. pooq.gr stayed on WooCommerce: it changed servers and its pages got lighter. If your shop needs something WooCommerce does not cover, see online shop development.

Can you move my website to another server?

Yes. I moved pooq.gr from a shared server to its own, on the same domain. Changes there now go live over a secure connection to the server (SSH and WP-CLI), not over FTP.

What if an update breaks something?

Before it goes live, every change has a backup and a written rollback plan, so I can undo it. On the Zosimades clinical platform, the new deploy process, first used for the release that is ready to install, brings the previous version back on its own if the automatic health check fails after an update.

Does a website you build need maintenance?

Less than a WordPress site, because there is no WordPress or PHP to update. Improvements I make to the template can carry over to it too, and if you want, I keep looking after it with updates and small changes.
